About the Farm

Background

Founded in 2008, Veggielution is a 6-acre urban farm located in East San José, specifically within Emma Prusch Farm Park in the Mayfair neighborhood. The farm has become known for its mission to connect people from diverse backgrounds through food and farming, fostering a sense of community in East San José.

Practices

Veggielution employs a community farm model that leverages the efforts of volunteers to cultivate and grow a variety of healthy crops. This approach not only produces fresh produce but also engages the local community in the farming process. The farm grows a wide range of vegetables, herbs, and fruits, including tomatoes, peppers, corn, potatoes, kale, radishes, carrots, cabbage, chayote, cauliflower, squash, cucumbers, cilantro, epazote, rosemary, basil, parsley, plums, peaches, apples, pears, apricots, persimmons, pomegranates, and mulberries.

The Rest

Veggielution offers a weekly farm stand every Saturday from 10am to 2pm, where local residents can purchase fresh produce. Additionally, the farm distributes farm boxes to low-income families and delivers hot meals to seniors and other individuals impacted by COVID-19. The farm serves as a community gathering space, promoting connections to the land, to each other, and across social barriers.
