About

Background

Judith and Chanowk run Yisrael Farms, which started as a half-acre urban farm located in the heart of Sacramento and has now grown to multiple locations. Their farm is a sustainable community resource, a story of love, perseverance, and reverence for the earth’s rhythms. Their neighborhood is a historically working-class area now battling food apartheid, poverty, and gentrification. In ten years, they transformed their yard into a half-acre farm, fed hundreds of people, and taught thousands more.

Practices

Yisrael Family Urban Farm works at the intersection of ecological land stewardship, sustainable food and agriculture, racial equity and justice, education, and community building. They use urban agriculture as a tool for community engagement, empowerment, and employment, focusing on growing their own destiny (G.O.O.D.).

Of note

The farm offers various programs and products, including the Liberated Harvest Produce & Egg Subscription, Farm to Skin handcrafted soaps, and Open Farm Days. They also provide educational opportunities such as soapmaking classes and Sow and Grow Saturdays.
