About the Farm
Background
Nui Mizel and her son, Kit, own and operate the 40-acre farm on the slopes of Haleakala. They moved to Hawaii from Thailand in the early 1990s and have since established a reputation for their culinary skills and fresh produce. Kit has worked in several Maui restaurants, while Nui has catered high-profile events. The farm is known for its diverse crops and vibrant farmers' market.
Practices
The farm benefits from Kula's cooler temperatures, rich soil, and regular rainfall, making it ideal for growing a variety of crops. They cultivate lettuce, zucchini, squash, broccoli, bok choy, bananas, papayas, strawberries, gold potatoes, avocados, and flowers such as protea, tuberoses, gardenias, heliconia, water lilies, and orchids. The farm emphasizes fresh, locally-grown produce.
The Rest
Maui Nui Farm hosts a farmers' market every Thursday through Sunday and offers farm tours on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month. Nui's Garden Kitchen Thai food truck operates daily, serving a variety of dishes. The farm also provides catering services and floral arrangements for events. Family Days feature music, food, and farm tours, with discounts for donations to the Food Bank and the use of reusable produce bags.
