About the Farm
Background
Located in northern Michigan's Leelanau County, this family-owned and operated farm has become known for producing healthy, quality foods through sustainable agricultural practices. The farm offers out-of-season strawberries from July through autumn and a variety of vegetables including lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, basil, kale, and chard. The Roadside Market features goods from other local farmers, such as sweet corn, apples, and pumpkins, and recently added a Taco Stand serving authentic tacos and fresh salads.
Practices
Utilizing the Hydro-Stacker hydroponic system, the farm grows over 20,000 plants while minimizing water consumption and significantly decreasing the amount of growing land required. This innovative system not only supports the farm's mission of promoting economic, ecological, and social well-being but also provides a unique U-pick experience for the public.
The Rest
The farm is also Michigan's distributor for the Hydro-Stacker, offering systems ranging from one-stack individual setups to commercial-sized farms. The Taco Stand at the Roadside Market serves fresh, daily-made tacos with specially crafted hot sauces and pico de gallo, available Thursday through Sunday from 3-8pm.
