Bramble Hollow Farm
About
Resting on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge mountains in Bedford County, Virginia, Bramble Hollow Farm has been providing pastured poultry and pork for nearly two decades. Since 2004, Brent and Anna Wills have built a diverse farm operation, offering a model for other farmers and homesteaders. The farm prioritizes the health of the land, plants, and animals, demonstrating what a family-owned diversified mountain farm can be. They support the community and uplift other farmers and growers in the Roanoke valley and beyond.
Bramble Hollow Farm raises several breeds of chickens, including heritage breeds like Plymouth Barred Rocks, Freedom Rangers, and Cornish Cross broilers. The chickens have 24-hour access to pasture with fresh green grass and grubs, supplemented with a custom-milled grain made with GMO-free corn, soybeans, oats, and other ingredients. Heritage breed turkeys such as Bourbon Red, Narragansetts, Midget Whites, and Black Spanish are also raised on pasture. Tamworth hogs are raised on pasture and in forest paddocks, finished on whole corn and acorns. The farm processes its birds on-site and has a breeding program for heritage breed poultry, primarily New Hampshire chickens, aiming for dual-purpose breeds. The farm's practices focus on natural systems like carbon cycling and biological diversity to build healthy and resilient soils.
Jack's Eggs, a part of the farm since 2016, are known for their rich taste and are produced by hens moved regularly to fresh pasture. Bramble Hollow Farm offers a Meat CSA for chicken, pork, and eggs. They are a founding farm in Edible Goose Creek, a local farm cooperative. The farm engages with the community through on-farm workshops, pot-luck dinners, and sells products through various markets and retailers in the Roanoke valley region. The farm also provides premium genetics to other growers as they are NPIP certified.
