About the Farm
Background
In 1979, a small group founded the nonprofit Black Hills Health & Education Center in Hermosa, South Dakota, recognizing the healing aspects of pure air, sunlight, temperance, exercise, proper nutrition, rest, water, and trust in Divine power. The center has since offered an affordable medical retreat program for people with health concerns, helping thousands find health and healing through whole-health recovery methods. The center also offers a 10-day supervised medical lifestyle program each month, addressing prevalent diseases with a proven record of success.
Practices
The farm grows nutrient-dense foods for on-campus health programs, regional wholesale markets, direct markets, and a new CSA. With a greenhouse and 8 deer-fenced acres, roughly 5 acres are under production, cultivating a full range of vegetables, dry beans, melons, berries, and herbs. The farm adheres to certified naturally grown standards, ensuring the produce is of the highest quality.
The Rest
The center also offers a 650-hour Massage Therapy course, qualifying graduates to take National Boards and receive state licensure. The faith-based massage program is one of a select few in the country. Visitors can tour the campus and enjoy a plant-based meal featuring fresh produce from the garden. The center's wellness programs address a broad spectrum of sickness and disease, and Biblical Response Therapy is available to help students apply Biblical principles to life's challenges.
