Bah Bah Blacktail Farm
About
Tess Hahn, an experienced shepherdess and Eastern medicine practitioner, has raised 15 generations of healthy sheep, blending traditional knowledge with modern farming practices. The farm is known for its quality Katahdin sheep, famous for their good-flavored meat, and also has some dairy sheep. Tess shares her expertise through books, workshops, and video lessons, helping others set up their own homestead flocks.
The farm follows organic principles and practices restorative agriculture, focusing on improving soil fertility and water holding capacity. Sheep are naturally raised with rotational grazing, moving to new pasture every 1-2 days, and are free from artificial hormones, GMO products, and antibiotics. The animals are treated with respect throughout their lives and harvested humanely. The farm also emphasizes preserving natural beauty, maintaining wildlife habitats, and keeping the land free of pesticides and herbicides.
Visitors can schedule a visit to see sustainable and ethical farming in action. The farm offers live animals and frozen lamb for sale, and provides resources for those interested in starting their own homestead flocks. Tess Hahn's book, 'Sheep Whispering 101,' and free video lessons cover various aspects of sheep farming, from breed selection to humane harvesting. The farm also maintains trails for hiking and horseback riding, and offers Clean, Fresh Water Drinking Post Automatic Waterers for other farmers.
