About the Farm

Background

Established in 1995 in Apex, Avillion Farm relocated in 2008 to Efland, Northern Orange County, to expand its operations. Known for its quality livestock and fiber products, the farm has been a staple in the community for over two decades.

Practices

The farm prioritizes animal well-being through preventive, low-input health approaches and guarantees the health of all animals sold. Employing a pasture-based management system, they practice integrated parasite management, including managed grazing and the FAMACHA system. Organic wormers are used whenever possible, with synthetic wormers reserved for necessity. Hormones are never used, and antibiotics are administered only for actual illnesses based on veterinary advice. Manure management includes conventional composting and vermicomposting. The farm is part of the Voluntary Scrapie Free Certification Program and maintains flocks that test negative for CAE, OPP, and Johnnes disease.

The Rest

Avillion Farm is a member of the Goodness Grows in North Carolina Program and offers a variety of fiber products including washed and raw fleeces, roving, yarns, and felted fabrics. They also have an Etsy shop for fiber purchases, while animal sales are conducted directly.
