About the Farm

Background

In 2014, the Arizona Worm Farm was envisioned as a proof of concept for a zero-waste, self-sustaining farm. By 2017, the farm launched with a single worm breeding trailer and has since expanded to include large-scale Red Wiggler and Black Soldier Fly breeding programs, as well as a home for chickens and goats. The farm's mission is to combat climate change, divert waste from landfills, and use regenerative soil efforts to sequester carbon.

Practices

The farm employs a waste-to-nutrient circular process, collecting food and landscape waste from local partners and feeding it to worms and larvae. These insects convert the waste into high-protein feed and fertilizer, which are then used to nourish hens and gardens, producing sustainable food and gardening products. The farm emphasizes regenerative agriculture, carbon capture in soil, and waste reduction techniques. Hot composting windrow processes and vermicompost methods are integral to their operations.

The Rest

The farm offers a variety of products for sale, including worm castings, Worm Compost Tea, and Red Wiggler composting worms. They also provide classes in composting, worm care, and gardening from Fall through Spring. Visitors are welcome for tours during open hours, and the farm hosts free formal tours. The team is dedicated to educating fellow gardeners and eco-enthusiasts on sustainable practices.
