About the Farm

Background

For 30 years, Glenn and Caryl Elzinga, along with their seven daughters and a few dedicated ranch hands, have operated a 50,000-acre ranch in the central Idaho Rocky Mountains. Over the past two decades, they have perfected the art of direct-marketing their beef to consumers across the United States. The ranch produces around 400 beeves annually and has expanded to include horses, hogs, and sheep. The Elzingas have built a reputation for their commitment to organic and regenerative practices, consistently delivering high-quality beef products.

Practices

The ranch employs adaptive planned grazing protocols, rotating cattle frequently to maintain plant species diversity and soil health. They use no antibiotics, additives, genetically modified feeds, animal byproducts, steroids, hormone implants, or pour-on insecticides. The land is managed without large farm equipment, manure concentrations, cropping, or feedlots, relying instead on animal power and minimal technology like GPS and electric fences. Winter feeding is done on open pastures to increase soil organic matter, resulting in a significant increase in organic matter and pasture plant diversity. The ranch's regenerative practices have doubled the carrying capacity of the land and improved overall ecosystem health.

The Rest

Alderspring Ranch offers a variety of beef products, including typical cuts, ground beef, sausages without preservatives, and hickory smoked steak strips. These products are available seasonally at the Boise 8th Street Farmer's Market, year-round at the Boise Consumer Co-op, and for home delivery in parts of Idaho and Western Montana. The ranch's commitment to regenerative practices includes ongoing testing and improvements, with a focus on healthier land, livestock, wildlife, and community wellness.
